A brilliant example of diversification is the activities of some of the world’s biggest stars. With royalties plummeting thanks to music and movie streaming services, celebrities have cleverly branched out into non-entertainment related fields. George Clooney’s Casamigos Tequila, Jay Z’s D’Usse Cognac and Diddy’s Ciroc Vodka have all made their owners rich beyond expectation. Then there are others’ fragrances, headphones and fashion lines. These consumable lines are infinitely profitable, so you can see the merit in stepping outside of their usual offerings!
In our timber industry, it’s heartening to see diversification on the agenda across the country. Examples of companies who didn’t diversify or rise to meet the changing landscape and got left behind include Kodak, Nokia, Motorola and Blockbuster Video.
